causes of ride share accidents

Rideshare app usage has grown tremendously in recent months, especially in the #Atlanta area. So many people have started using the service as their side hustle. Others enjoy the convenience of not having to drive themselves places. Although the idea of rideshare, such as Uber and Lyft, is great, there comes the risk of accidents with these services.

Here are the top causes of rideshare accidents:

  • Drowsy Driving

As mentioned, those who drive with rideshare are typically doing it as a side job. Therefore, they are working their regular day job and then driving for a rideshare company afterwards. Although it sounds great for the extra cash, they can be exhausted resulting in driver fatigue or drowsy driving. This can very easily lead to an accident and is one of the most common causes of rideshare accidents.

  • Inattentive Driving

Rideshare drivers are often distracted because of their passengers, so sometimes their driving is very inattentive. Passengers often want to play loud music, have a conversation, take pictures, etc. This poses another serious hazard and can be a top cause in rideshare accidents.

  • Speeding

Often times, rideshare drivers try to provide the highest service for their passengers because it effects their ratings. This can include getting them to their destination on time. By trying to meet this standard, they often fall victims to speeding which is another top cause of rideshare accidents.

  • Driving Under the Influence

Like other drivers on our Atlanta roadways, rideshare drivers may also make the poor decision to drive while intoxicated with alcohol or another substance. This can cause an accident and leave themselves and their passengers seriously injured.

  • Common Roadway Hazards

Rideshare accidents can also occur from your typical roadway hazards, such as, construction zones, acts of nature, etc.
