Take Me Out To The Braves Game: Baseball Game Safety Tips

baseball game safety tips

Spring is here which means temps are rising and you're looking for more activities and events to go to that are outside. A baseball game is a perfect way to spend a spring or summer day, but the hot temperatures at these games can create a large risk. If you're planning to visit Atlanta's own Suntrust Park to cheer on the Braves this season, follow these few tips for an enjoyable experience:

  • Dress Appropriately

Comfortable clothing that is also light weight and loose fitting is the perfect baseball game attire. Excess or tight clothing can prevent your body from cooling properly. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, such as tennis shoes, as there will be a bit of walking. If you are going to a night game, a light jacket might be necessary for when the temperature goes down. Keep an eye on the weather before attending, so you can know what to expect. Bringing a rain poncho is also a good idea, especially in #Georgia.

  • Sunscreen, Sun Hats, & Sunglasses

Although some seats are shaded, many are not. No matter what time you go to a game, you will likely be spending a portion of your time in the sun. Prepare for this by applying sunscreen beforehand to keep your skin healthy. Getting a sun burn at a baseball game is not what you want. Hats are a great accessory to bring along that can also provide protection from the sun. And, don't forget those sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful rays.

  • Stay Hydrated

Just like any other time you are going to be outdoors, it is important to keep yourself hydrated. Drink plenty of water before going to the game and continue drinking water throughout. Alcohol and caffeine aren't advised as they force your body to get rid of water and can actually contribute to dehydration or heat exhaustion. If you are going to consume other drinks, try to drink water in between each.

  • Pay Attention

Regardless of where you’re sitting, there’s always a risk of an unexpected foul ball. These can come out of nowhere, so it is important that you are paying attention at all times. Refrain from leaning over a wall or railing in an attempt to catch a fly ball, as this puts you at great risk for injury.

  • Choose Your Seats Wisely

Before purchasing your tickets, check where exactly you will be sitting in the stadium. Some seats have more sun exposure, so if you are bringing young kids or older adults you may want to opt for a seat that is more shaded. This is also true for games when there is a high chance of rain. If you believe it may rain on the day of your game, opt for a seat under a covered area so that you don't have to worry about the weather affecting your experience. Here is the official seating chart for Atlanta's Suntrust Park.
